What expats need to know about hiring maids in Dubai? Here are compliances and costs associated

Having a full-time maid or nanny in the UAE may be a great lifesaver for many expats, whether you need a nanny to look after your children or a cook to ensure you eat healthy meals of your choice on a regular basis. Sponsoring a domestic assistant in Dubai can help you manage your time more effectively, whether you’re busy with your business or family, or simply need some additional helping hands around the house. However, hiring or sponsoring a maid in Dubai is not as simple as it appears. There are several things to consider before hiring a maid, especially if you want to hire a sponsored maid from your home country.

What are the prerequisites for employing a maid in Dubai?

Expatriate residents can recruit sponsored domestic help if they match one of the following criteria, according to the UAE Executive Regulation of Federal Law No. 10 of 2017 on Domestic Workers:

  • In an effort to protect employees’ and employers’ rights, the UAE government tightened legislation earlier this year, requiring UAE nationals and foreigners to hire domestic assistants exclusively from recognised agencies.
  • Individuals or families with a monthly combined income of at least AED 25,000 are eligible.
  • Those who are granted authority by the UAE Cabinet to sponsor domestic helpers.
  • Patients in the UAE have recognised medical coverage and a household income of at least AED 15,000 per month.
  • UAE expats who operate as consultants and legal counsellors in a variety of fields.
  • According to UAE labour regulations, special circumstances must be approved by a competent ministry.
  • Bachelors are prohibited from employing a maid.

Costs of employing a full-time maid or nanny

Even for families on a limited budget, hiring a maid or nanny in Dubai is more reasonable than you may imagine. It’s worth noting, though, that you or your entire household must have a combined monthly salary of at least AED 25,000 to qualify.

Cost of sponsored full-time live-in maid:

Here’s an estimate of how much hiring and sponsoring a live-in domestic assistant in Dubai will cost you.

  • Salary is variable and can range from AED 1,500 to AED 5,000 per month. Experience, responsibilities, references, talents, and other criteria will all influence the remuneration. You must also adhere to her home country’s minimum wage standards, which are enforced by her embassy in the UAE, when determining a maid’s monthly income.
  • All sponsors are required to offer health insurance coverage for the full-time domestic helper. You should anticipate to pay between AED 5,000 and AED 10,000 each year, depending on the insurance company and premium you choose.
  • You will need to file for your maid’s UAE residency visa as her future legal sponsor in the nation. This will set you back approximately AED 5,000 to AED 5,500 per year, which is a non-refundable fee.
  • Your maid or nanny must have an annual return airplane ticket. The cost will differ depending on the destination and the carrier.
  • If the maid will be living with you, you will be responsible for her housing, food, and other basic necessities as her sponsor. If she does not want to live with you, you should expect to pay a supplement to her salary to cover her living expenses.
  • You may be required to pay a refundable security deposit, which can range from AED 3,000 to AED 10,000, depending on the maid’s nationality and the restrictions of her embassy.
  • You should also expect to pay for her medical examinations, registration, and Emirates ID, all of which will be paid to the UAE government.

Cost of maid hired through agency:

Here’s how much a full-time maid in Dubai would cost you if you hire through a recognised agency.

  • You need to pay one-time agency fees. These might range from AED 5,000 to AED 15,000, depending on the circumstances. The maid’s visa, health insurance, medical test, aircraft tickets, Emirates ID charges, and the agency’s finder fee are all included in this fee.
  • Salaries for maids are normally between AED 3,000 and AED 5,000 per month, and are included in your contract.
  • Live-in and live-out maid services are available in Dubai. If you hire a live-out maid, you should expect to pay a premium for her lodging.
